In this phase the mitotic spindle is fully formed, eith the poles at opposite ends. The microtubules are attached to the centromeres of the chromosomes in both mitosis and meiosis. The chromosomes are aligned along the metaphase plate. Metaphase II in the same as metaphase in mitosis.
