We have used a number of references ranging from the original literature to children's books to help us develop this Website and our lab book of activities. One of our favorite sources has been Between Pacific Tides written by Ed Ricketts, Jack Calvin, and Joel W. Hedgpeth Revised by David W. Phillips from Stanford University Press, Stanford, CA.
Ed Ricketts was a good friend of John Steinbeck's. In fact, if you have read Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday or Tortilla Flat you have met Doc whose character is based on Ed Ricketts. Ricketts ran the Western Biological Laboratory from his home and lab on Cannery Row. This building is now a private men's club.
