Introduction to the Marine Biology
Trip
|
Sidwell Friends School’s 21st Century Biology class has ade
neuroscience a hot topic in its curriculum. The interest was spurred by a
summer studies program in which seventeen Sidwell Friends students went to the
coast of California to research neuroscience and intertidal ecology.
Students in the class as well as those who participated in the summer
program are developing a website so that others may learn from their
experience.
BEEMNET, the Brain Exchange Electronic Mentorship Network, is a
research-oriented, educational organization that provides resources and
support for elementary school children and their teachers through the use of
the World Wide Web. The President and Scientific Director of BEEMNET, Inc.,
Dr. Deborah Colbern, has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovation
Research award from the National Institute of Drugs and Alcohol to facilitate
the development of BEEMNET.
For more information regarding BEEMNET go to:

The experiences of Sidwell Friends students on the Marine Biology trip has
contributed another section to BEEMNET. This section covers neuroscience and
intertidal ecology through articles that describe what the students did on the
trip. These articles and activities are intended to share the neuroscience
studies with other students by means of the World Wide Web. Links to the Web listed with the articles are further examples of distance learning. By creating our own web site and accessing others, we have been able to further our interests and heighten our level of knowledge in the field of Neuroscience as well as show our work to others.
