ExploreStar CTCE Workshop Descriptions
Advanced Robotics – Come design and create creatures, sculptures or 3-D art, and then program the devices for action! In this class, students will use computer software to write step-by-step programs to put their creation in to action and use hands-on concepts including lights, motion, sensors, and electrical circuits.
BAG IT! Build Arcade Games –Design, create and edit your own 2-dimentional arcade-style video game: design the action, create the characters, and edit the objectives and outcomes. Take home a CD with your game on it so that you can challenge your friends and family! AND you’ll receive a copy of the software at the last session so that you can BAG IT when the class is over!
Beginning Engineering –This exciting hands-on engineering class combine LEGO Education and LEGO Technic materials to explores motorized simple machines by building realistic models. Student teams creatively solve challenges using concepts learned in class.
Claymation Creation –Clay & animation – what a perfect combination! Working in teams, students do it all – from story creation to making the characters and sets. As they learn the production process, they will animate, record, download, assemble and edit their own movies!
Ultimate Ride
Intelligent House –Discover engineering through the building of simple machines and a house with hands on LEGO Dacta equipment. Students explore the world of construction by programming an outdoor lamp, motorized garage door, ceiling fan, burglar alarm and more.
Intermediate Engineering –More complex concepts are introduced in the 2nd course in the Engineering series as students learn about and create compound machines using LEGO Education and LEGO Technic materials. More complex challenges help solidify concepts.
Ultimate Ride –Have you ever wanted to design your own roller coaster? Now is your chance! If that includes exciting, hair-raising drops and corkscrew turns or a long gentle ride through interesting scenery, you get to decide. After you have finished building your coaster using state of the art computer programming, you will actually get to see what the coaster will feel like from a variety of positions within or outside the car. Design, build and ride a roller coaster that is just right for you!
