Bethesda Day Camp

Join us April 5, 2008 from 1 - 3 PM in the Mulitpurpose Room (5100 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda MD) for an Open House. We will have games, tours, and treats!

Nestled in the Edgemoor neighborhood, families come to the Bethesda Day Camp for its sense of community and nurturing staff as well as summer camp fun. Bethesda Day Camp has been an important part of families’ summers since its inception and to this day balances traditional camp activities with cutting edge curriculum. The program for ages 3 ½ to Grade 5 offers a great first time experience for our youngest campers and the options grow broader as campers grow older. Campers are divided into three age appropriate teams whose daily schedules and rotation of activities vary according to age group.  Teams are comprised of the Pre-school Team (Age 3 ½ - Grade PK), Primary Team (Grades K & 1) and Senior Team (Grades 2-5). Campers choose from three two-week long sessions, or can enjoy the full six-week summer.

The Staff
Campers are not the only ones who return year after year! Quite simply, the staff love this camp. Bethesda Day Camp staff are experts at giving campers the freedom needed during the summer within the structure and supervision of the camp day. Bethesda Day Camp draws educators from all over the DC area as lead teachers for the activities and homebases. A talented group of college-aged counselors bring the fun. Each group is paired with a teacher and counselor, and we maintain a 1:7 staff to camper ratio (1:6 for the preschool team).  BDC

The Community
The strength at the heart of camp lies in the sense of community everyone feels. From the directors greeting campers as they arrive in the mornings to the counselors initiating a recess game, there is a genuine charm to the day to day life at camp. Sidwell’s Lower School campus lends itself ideally to camp life. Staff create the ideal setting for campers to get to know each other and fully appreciate all of the activities. Team collections throughout the week give groups a time to get together for songs, jokes and camp announcements.

The Funbdc
Science, Art, Music, Storybook, Cooking, Sports, Drama, Dance, Computer and much, much more make the days fun for all campers!

The activities vary by age group. Pre-school campers rotate through a set schedule of activities each day with their home base group. As campers get older, they have a greater number of activities and choices in their daily schedule. Campers choose activities weekly. Swimming (for Senior Team) or Water Play is a great chance for campers to cool down during the week. Fabulous Fridays are held weekly bringing the camp together for a special event or entertainer.

The camp fully uses the newly renovated campus including the newly constructed gym, expanded classrooms and brand new playground.

NOTE: Youngest campers must be 3 ½ by the first day of the camp session.
