An internship with Sidwell Summer can offer a wealth of leadership and personal growth opportunities within your specific field of study.   As undergraduate and graduate programs require an increasing number of internship hours and projects, we enthusiastically welcome you to find a summer experience that will meet your program’s criteria for academic credit and/or service learning with us.  Summer camp internships are often associated with degrees related to education, psychology and recreation.  However, we are also seeking intern applicants from many other fields.  Consider a Sidwell Summer internship with a focus on business, marketing, the arts, nursing, science, graphic design, social work, communications and more!

We are committed to assisting you throughout your internship process, from designing a supervised learning opportunity to providing all appropriate information as required by your institution, including feedback and evaluations.  Our Internship Coordinator will work with you and the Program Director to tailor a schedule that meets both your academic needs and Sidwell Summer’s programmatic needs.

Program:

Sidwell Summer offers a wide array of day, overnight, and excursion programsfor children ages 3 1/2 to 18 and allows each family to tailor their summer experience based on their own needs and interests.  We are led by a group of educators and managers who bring over 85 years of camp experience to the programs.

Sidwell Summer has been committed to providing the best in summer experiences for over 65 years.  We strive to provide traditional camp fun with cutting edge programs and workshops.  For academic classes , we apply the same standards for which Sidwell is known.

Mission:


Sidwell Summer's Mission is: to create academic, athletic, arts, and skill-building programs for Sidwell Friends and other students that encourage participants to inquire, to challenge, and to be adventurous while still cherishing quiet reflection.  It is our mission to provide a fun, yet enriching, array of programs for campers and students while providing a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Goal:


As an intern, your primary goal is to contribute to the challenging, fun and learning environment for all campers and staff.

Objectives:

The specific objectives for individual internships are to be developed in cooperation with the intern, the intern’s academic institution and Sidwell Summer.  These objectives are the specific benchmarks to be evaluated throughout the summer.
Internship Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a post–secondary academic institution.
  • Completed sophomore year and be at least 18 years of age.
  • Desire and aptitude for working with young people, in a collaborative setting.
  • Attention to detail while recognizing the big picture of a project.
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility for work in a fun, fast paced, and diverse environment.
