Here are the family math activities suggested in our October newsletters.
Week of October 3, 2005
There are many wonderful card games that build a child’s number sense. For
younger kids, card games can help children learn their numbers, reinforce their
counting skills, and strengthen their logical reasoning. For older children,
card games are a wonderfully painless way to ensure mastery of addition and
subtraction facts, strengthen their strategic thinking, practice skip counting,
and reinforce their logical reasoning.
Here are some suggestions:
For younger kids, play Uno, Crazy Eights, Go Fish, or a card matching game.
For older kids, some great math thinking card games include Rummy, Solitaire,
Cribbage, and even Blackjack and Poker!
Can’t remember how to play? Tired of these games and need some fresh ideas? Want
to borrow a cribbage board? Don’t worry! Call us,
e-mail us, or stop down in the math lab
and we will remind you how to play these wonderful games and show you some
others that you may not be familiar with yet.
