Parents of 1st and 2nd graders joined classroom teachers to explore math in
the lives of their children on Wednesday, October 23rd.
Games, problems, and activities were organized at tables according to the
NCTM Math
Principles and Standards. Parents were challenged to solve problems and play
games the way their children do everyday.
We shared a short film, "Math in the Lives of 1st and 2nd Graders" which
showed examples of math thinking, use of materials, and types of lessons in the
school day. This film is available from the Math Lab on
VHS or DVD. Please contact Merry Adelfio if you would like to borrow it.
We held a discussion about how we apply the NCTM Principles and Standards in
our curriculum. Parents submitted questions, some of which we answered then, and
some of which we will answer on this webpage. There were great questions to work
with and we look forward to publishing our answers on this page in the very near
future.
Here are some photos from the 1st and 2nd Grade Math
Night.
